DECEMBER 2008 ISSUE

Homecoming hero

It's a moment for all the backroom staff to savour: a souvenir for their photo albums - or a yarn to tell the grandchildren in the years to come...After clinching McLaren's first drivers' championship for nine years, Lewis Hamilton returns to the factory to thank the McLaren personnel (over 1,000 of them) who made it happen. Having completed a lap around the lake at the McLaren Technology Centre, Lewis parks his MP4-23 in the building where it was conceived, built and then assembled. The team, proudly wearing their 'victory rocket red' shirts, cheer and take pictures. It's a day they'll remember forever.
