The LTA, in partnership with SBS Transit and SMRT, has released a formal press release on the planned changes to the traffic network over the course of the Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix due to take place in the Suntec City/Marina Bay area come end-September.
As expected, majority of the bus services looping at Suntec City/Esplanade or terminating at Marina Centre Terminal, will be turned back at the City Hall Station/SMRT HQ junctions, skipping the race vicinity altogether, as in the case with past diversions whenever roads in that area are closed to facilitate various events. In addition, services using the Esplanade Bridge to access Shenton Way will be diverted to ply the City Hall and Bugis areas. This will help facilitate the transfers to be made onto the free shuttle bus services connecting these two areas and train stations with Suntec City during the race days (though it is advisable to travel there by train and on foot via CityLink Mall).
Separately, the management of Suntec City has also arranged for their own free shuttle bus services which will pick up passengers from locations such as Ang Mo Kio, Toa Payoh, Novena, Bedok and East Coast Park in what seemed to be a an effort to deflect any possibility of a repeat of the retail gloom during the period of the IMF meetings back in 2006.
