Civic Hybrid Engine

The Honda Civic Hybrid System features a 3-stage i-VTEC + IMA that employs Honda’s 1.3L i-VTEC (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) engine to provide three stages of valve timing (low-speed, high-speed, and valve deactivated mode), combined with a compact and efficient electric motor, Honda’s IMA (Integrated Motor Assist) system.

It comes with an ‘idle-stop’ feature that turns off the engine temporarily, resulting in saving fuel and minimising emissions. As soon as you brake the Hybrid, the ‘idle-stop’ feature occurs automatically and the engine restarts as soon as the brake pedal is released. Unlike the mechanical linkage from the accelerator to the fuel-injection throttle, the Civic Hybrid uses ‘Drive-by-Wire’ technology.

This system uses an electronic position sensor connected to the accelerator pedal that sends an electronic signal to the Power Control Module (PCM) controller.
